When one Charity Challenge just isn't enough!

Our Operations Director, Leanne Hackett, is taking part in a number of events this year to help raise money to support Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan is a charity that provides support to cancer patients during and aftertreatment, as well as also offering support to family members and friends.

They are a great charity – and really do care and show compassion for those that they help during difficult times.

Leanne will be doing:

• Macmillan 26 Mile Mighty Hike across the peaks on the 24th July
• the Tough Mudder Midlands Classic full on the 14th August, and
• regardless of her fear of heights, will be skydiving in September,

A charity close to her heart

Leanne has chosen to raise donations for this charity as it is close to her heart, during a 24-month period – Leanne has sadly had 5 family members diagnosed with cancer of all different kinds and stages.

During this time, she has spoken to different people and seen the huge impact cancer has on both the patient and their families, as well as how scarily common it is. But also how lovely it ist o have a charity that offer such great support, a service she has personally used herself.

“Macmillan really are a great charity – a telephone call to arrange dietary requirements for the mighty hike turned into a long phone call with me telling the kind lady on the other end of the phone all about our families’ circumstances, she listened with empathy and compassion, and just made me feel so at ease and comfortable to express all my feelings, she only asked me what my allergies were! "

Provide support to Cancer sufferers and their families

In a time when you feel hopeless and not able to do anything other than offer words of support to your family, I feel my way of feeling like I can do something is by helping raise money for a such a lovely charity so they can continue to offer support to others just as they did for me as it does make a huge difference!

Overcoming a fear of Heights

The biggest one for me is choosing to jump from a plane, when I am terrified of heights…. But the fear I feel is nowhere near as great as those going through treatment especially at the later stages of cancer and not knowing the true outcome until treatment is complete.

I guess that’s the point of this main event really, pushing my own fear boundaries”.
