Diary of a DMS Guy

How do you feel when a potential supplier offers massive discounts?

I was having a conversation with a prospective customer earlier in the week.

He was weighing up the pros and cons of the 3 systems he had shortlisted and we were discussing each of the systems and what he thought.

During the previous conversation I had had with him, he had indicated that one of the solutions that he had been considering had been taken off his list because their price was significantly higher than both our solution and his other option (which was an upgrade from his incumbent supplier).

However, during the week, the supplier had returned with a new quote - 40% cheaper than his original pricing, but time limited for seven days.

I aired my thoughts that I didn't like this sort of practice - I price our solution where I believe the price and value given makes sense for both us and the dealer and genuinely believe that our pricing is where it needs to be.    To come back and then offer massive discounts off the original pricing just indicates to me that the supplier isn't confident in the value of the solution and was simply taking a "punt" with his original pricing.. ?

My prospect agreed, but it's an interesting question how people would generally react when approached in this way ....
