I had a great reminder today of how Marketing was changing.
I went on a cycle ride today with a group organised by Tulio CC. Tulio specialise in Business Networking by Bicycle. So, it could be argued that it joins my love of cycling and allows me to do it whilst claiming to be working!
Nevertheless, although this group was wildly spread in terms of business, we did find some commonality and some potential common business interests.
However, the point of my thoughts here aren't the great day out cycling (if you've never done it then make sure you cycle one sunny day to the summit at Holme Moss nearly Holmfirth in West Yorkshire).
The Power of Social Media Marketing
My thoughts were going towards the power of Social Media in marketing for all businesses - this day had been created solely by Social Media.
Working with Social Media is different to other types of Marketing in many ways. The wrong thing in social is to directly sell. The key to social media is to build your brand, and deliver content that will engage and entertain your audience.
This is something that requires nothing more than commitment to a strategy and to follow it consistently over a period of time. The great thing about Social Media is that it is very low cost, and can be engineered very easily.
Recently, we launched our Automotive - Be More Social business unit - the aim of this part of our business is simple. We aim to help Car dealers to use Social Media to generate and nurture leads - ultimately leading to sales and profit!
The 90 Day Planning Session
On Friday, I attended our Automotive Be More Social 90 day planning session, along with a number of our customers and prospective customers. This planning session forms a key part of the Social Media Strategy we deliver - building a Social Media Roadmap for the next 90 days. This session gives our customers the opportunity to look forward at what is happening both in our business and the world at large, and plan our Social Media Strategy around this.
From here, we can see what content we will need over the next 90 days (and other parts of our strategy show the easy way to deliver content - both Long and Short form). From the content, extracting Social Media ideas that are cohesive, consistent and true to our strategy become more simple.
The great thing about Social Media, is that it gives dealers of all sizes to raise their profiles above all others. I have lot's of car dealers linked to me on Social Media - as they are my prospective customers - but there are several names that always stick in my mind. Theses aren't generally big dealerships (in fact more the opposite!) but they are the one's which have a Social Media Strategy and execute it faithfully.
